A Life of Service and Sharing

Martha Jane Watson

Martha "Jane" Watson continued her tradition of sharing, even after her lifetime, with a planned gift.

Martha "Jane" Watson lived a life of stewardship. She understood from a very young age that all she had was a gift from God and to be shared with others. Jane learned this from her parents. As active members of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic parish in the Diocese of San Angelo, her family shared their gifts with their parish family. A fellow parishioner in Jane's confirmation class remembered her family as, "the glue that held it all together," with their servant leadership in the parish.

Jane's life of service began by sharing her time and talents in school organizations and continued as a first-grade teacher at a parochial school and then as a legal secretary following her graduation from college. Later, Jane would further her education and become a family counselor in order to help children and families.

During this time Jane never forgot the example her parents set for her. She became an active member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic parish in Arlington and with other charitable organizations. A friend, upon remembering the life of Jane, commented, "Her smile, which she readily shared, could light up a room!"

Jane shared everything, even her smile! Upon her passing, Jane continued to share by making a provision in her will for her parish and other important causes. Jane's example is a reminder to share with others the gifts that we've been blessed with.

A planned gift can be a way to continue to serve even after our life on earth. Like Jane's gift, these provisions can make a difference for a parish, a Catholic school, a ministry or the Diocese and demonstrate the importance of sharing all we have.
